China has achieved significant advancements in combat aircraft platforms
The Chengdu J-10C and J-20 and the Shenyang J-16 are the main types of combat aircraft that China continues to produce in greater and more advanced quantities. With plans to grow even more, the PLAAF already operates more than 600 aircraft across and at least 19 frontline combat units. The PLAAF’s inventory of F-22 and F-35 low-observable aircraft is expected to surpass that of the US by the end of 2023 and overtake the US Air Force by 2030.
China has achieved significant advancements in combat aircraft platforms, sensors, and missiles, but has had difficulty developing high-performance military turbofan engines.
