Authorities issued flash flood warnings, and rescue efforts were underway in some areas of the territory on Friday, prompting the city stock exchange to cancel all trading sessions for the day. If you live near a river, be aware of the weather and be prepared to leave your home if it floods. The Hong Kong Observatory issued a similar warning, urging drivers to stay away from areas with steep slopes or retaining walls due to the risk of landslides. As of late Thursday night, local authorities in the Chinese metropolis reported widespread flooding in several districts and the deployment of rescue teams to the area. The “trough of low pressure connected with the remnant of Haikui,” as the Hong Kong meteorological observatory put it, produced the recent torrential rain. At the city’s border with Shenzhen, authorities closed schools and halted freight processing services.
