In an apparent attempt to put an end to rumors concerning his health, Chechen strongman Ramzan Kadyrov released fresh video footage on Sunday in which he smiled and encouraged everyone to engage in physical activity.

Rights groups accuse the 46-year-old leader of Chechnya of presiding over a “totalitarian government,” and there has been widespread speculation about the possibility of his health for months.

Kadyrov’s Telegram channel added two videos on Sunday.

In the first clip, he was roaming around an unnamed place while wearing a raincoat. His face seemed swollen as he smiled.

The second video features him speaking Chechen and then the words “practice sport” in Russian.

The remarks that accompanied the films read, “I strongly encourage that everyone who cannot discern the truth from lies on the internet go for a stroll, get some fresh air, and put their mind in order.”

“It’s amazing how refreshing the rain can be.” September 17, 2023

Unconfirmed claims on social media suggested the Chechen leader was in a coma, prompting the publication of the recordings, the timing of which is unknown.

Kadyrov has been one of the most vocal backers of Russia’s offensive in Ukraine, and his troops have battled side by side with the Russians.

The warlord who turned on his own rebels and became Putin’s buddy has always called himself Putin’s “footsoldier.”

Kadyrov was elected president of Chechnya in 2007, and since then, he has ruled the predominantly Muslim region of Chechnya.
