18 September, DOHA (Reuters) – A source briefed on the subject told Reuters on Monday that $6 billion in unfrozen Iranian funds had been transferred to bank accounts in Doha, prompting a prisoner swap between the United States and Iran.

According to the source, on Monday morning, a Qatari plane was waiting in Iran to transport five American inmates and two members of their families to Doha.

On August 10, Qatar declared publicly that it had negotiated a swap arrangement with Iran that would result in the release of five detained American nationals and the release of five detained Iranians.
