The Israeli military said that approximately 2,200 rockets have been shot into Israel from Gaza since the start of hostilities, contradicting Hamas military commander Muhammad Al-Deif’s previous estimate of 5,000 rockets launched. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have been ordered to the area bordering the Gaza Strip to protect citizens. Since Hamas launched its offensive, Palestinians have been prevented from entering checkpoints into Jerusalem from the West Bank. The Israeli Emergency Service said that one of its employees was killed and four others were injured in the Hamas strike. At least 22 people have been murdered, and over 250 have been injured. During its surprise raid, Hamas also claims to have seized Israeli soldiers near the Gaza border. Residents of two Israeli settlements have reported that assailants from Gaza are attempting to break into their homes and appealing for help from the Israel Defense Forces.
