Ten billion euros ($10.79 billion) in EU cohesion funds for Hungary will soon be unblocked by the European Commission. These payments had been frozen because of concerns about corruption and the rule of law. This is an attempt to persuade Hungary to reverse its veto on a proposal to enhance EU financing to Ukraine by 50 billion euros during the next European Council meeting. By ensuring that all other EU member states agree bilateral aid packages for Ukraine, the EU can sidestep Hungary’s skepticism.
