This is the second such fire in less than a week, and it comes at a time of heightened military escalation between the United States and Iran in the Persian Gulf.

On Monday, residents of Khorramabad, western Iran, also reported hearing a loud noise. Iran International reports that an underground missile base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is located in the vicinity, although the IRGC has denied that an explosion ever took place there.

For what it’s worth, In Iran, it’s not uncommon to hear of mysterious explosions or fires. The 2021 outage at the Natanz nuclear site stands out as the most significant event. There was an explosion and fire there a year ago.

Iran blames Israel for a number of incidents, notably the Natanz incident of 2021. Iran stated at the end of August that it had disbanded “Zionist” cells and thwarted an Israeli plan against its missile operations.

Along with rising tensions between the United States and Israel, Iran has experienced a string of unexplained events, the most recent being a fire at a Defense Ministry-owned auto battery business outside Tehran.Images on Twitter purportedly showing heavy black smoke coming from the site quickly went viral, but no casualties were recorded. Iran frequently blames Israel for organizing attacks and other mysterious phenomena, such as explosions and fires. Tensions between Iran and the United States are at an all-time high as of late, with Iran seizing multiple oil ships in the Gulf on suspicion of smuggling.
