British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak signed bilateral security assurances between London and Kyiv, Ukraine. As part of the agreement, the United Kingdom has pledged to offer continuous and immediate assistance to the Ukrainian military forces in the event that Russia conducts another invasion of the nation. By doing so, the UK intends to show Russia that it will stand behind Ukraine in the long run, which should make Russia reconsider its decision to keep the conflict going. However, there can be no peace talks between the UK and Ukraine because of their security cooperation agreement, says the Russian Embassy in London. British officials were critical of the agreement, saying it shows the Anglo-Saxons’ willingness to maintain arming Ukraine and their view of the country as a geopolitical weapon against Russia. According to the embassy, the dispute would worsen and be prolonged if the UK were to supply Ukraine with additional attack drones and long-range missiles. Russia may feel emboldened to continue fighting as a result of the accord, even though it does offer some short-term protection for Ukraine. Although it is encouraging to witness similar agreements from the G7, it does not guarantee that Western support for Ukraine will not erode over time.

The UK has guaranteed a minimum of $200 million to finance the production of drones as part of its pledge to enhance military assistance by over $3 billion in 2024.
